Spiritual care is aligned with mission and culture of LLU providing whole person care.  Our trainees desire specific training and competencies related to spiritual care.  Our goal is to equip our trainees to be able to:

  1. Verbalize an inclusive definition of spirituality, religion, and whole person care
  2. Recognize how one’s spiritual beliefs and perspectives influence patient interactions and the delivery of medical care
  3. Identify the relevant elements of a spiritual history and screening
  4. Summarize and communicate relevant spiritual information and recognize spiritual distress when present
  5. Modify treatment plans by incorporating an understanding of the patient’s spiritual needs
  6. Identify and recognize the role of spiritual care specialties, including the chaplaincy
  7. Appreciate the ethical concerns around delivering spiritual care
  8. Understand how to offer prayer in a culturally-sensitive, respectful manner
